Considered one of Antoni Gaudi's most impressive works of art, the interiors of Casa Batlló is truly a sight to behold. If you'd like to join in this exclusive virtual experience, keep reading to find out how.
Casa Batlló
In 1903, the building today known as Casa Batlló was bought by Mr Josep Batlló y Casanovas. Mr Batlló gave full creative freedom to Antoni Gaudi, wanting him to demolish the building and rebuild it in his image. But nope, Gaudi decided that he’ll keep the building and work around it, ultimately imposing his vision on the space. And that shows that no matter what state your room is in right now, there’s definitely a way to make it better.
Antoni Gaudi is perhaps most well-known for his work on Sagrada Família, but he has smaller masterpieces situated all around Barcelona. Casa Batlló is one such masterpiece.
A virtual tour through Casa Batlló
Casa Batlló was included on the UNESCO list in 2005, and stylistically includes all the best bits of Gaudi’s work. Gaudi’s style is hard to categorise, but most people agree that it’s inspired by nature. Casa Batlló known by the locals as La Casa dels ossos, or “House of Bones”, and this is already where you can see Gaudi’s genius: just like in human beings and countless animals in nature, the pillars that give Casa Batlló its structural integrity look impressively like a skeleton.
Normally a must-visit in Barcelona, Casa Batlló is opening its doors for a virtual tour for the first time in its history on Saturday, 30 May, at 5pm GST. Join the Head of World Heritage for Casa Batlló, Amilcar Vargas, as he brings you through highlights of the building, breaking down and explaining Gaudi’s inspirations in simple English.
