Visit Ilocos Sur starting November 15!

Following the expansion of Ilocos Norte’s travel bubble last October 15, its neighboring province, Ilocos Sur, is gearing up for reopening on November 15 to Luzon residents including Metro Manila. Backed up by the Department of Tourism, the local government hopes this initiative will help boost tourism and give back jobs to the tourism workforce in the province.
While details of the extensive safety protocols have yet to be announced, Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat did mention that these will be finalized before Ilocos Sur’s reopening. However, similar to the reopening protocols of Boracay island and El Nido, a strict ‘Test-Before-Travel’ policy will be implemented and negative rT-PCR test results must be provided at least 72-hours before their visit.
Ilocos Sur first reopened their borders to neighboring cities back in October 1 as part of a travel bubble with Baguio, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan and La Union. The province has reported the lowest number of COVID-19 cases in Region 1 as of October 17, 2020.

The following tourist attractions will be open on November 15:

    Vigan Heritage Village

Take a leisurely walk along Calle Crisologo, ride a calesa to nearby shops, and don’t forget to indulge in local favorites like authentic Vigan longganisa, Ilocos Empanada, and bagnet!

    Plaza Salcedo Dancing Fountain

Another must-see when visiting the province is the Plaza Salcedo Dancing Fountain where an hour-long light show every 7PM lights up the town.
The Plaza is exceptionally beautiful at night, too, so consider a night stroll!

    Bantay Bell Tower

A trip to Ilocos Sur is never complete without visiting Plaza Burgos, one of the two major plazas in the bustling town. Plaza Burgos was built to commemorate the life of Father Jose P. Burgos, a Filipino martyr from Vigan.
Surrounding the Plaza are local eateries and some souvenir shops, a perfect place to people watch and witness local life.
