Kwentong Dagat Beach Resort: A hidden gem in Zambales
Zambales has a lot to offer when it comes to tourism. From various shipwreck diving spots, themed parks, and sandy beach resorts in Subic Bay to the numerous restaurants that offer authentic Central Luzon cuisine, Zambales is definitely one of the most worthy holiday destinations for the summer season - one you shouldn’t sleep on!
With its tourism industry gearing up to bounce back from the effects of the global pandemic, tourists can start checking out some of their up-and-coming resorts that can offer something new to both local and foreign visitors. One of their must-visit destinations? The aesthetic beachside, and not to mention vegan-friendly, resort called Kwentong Dagat.
The perfect place to get some vitamin sea
Nestled in an unassuming fishing village in Zambales is Kwentong Dagat, a beachside resort home to vegan cuisine and nipa hut-style cabins for accommodations. Boasting views of overhead palm trees and the West Philippine Sea, the resort invites guests to create storied holidays with friends and family amid a scenic backdrop. Whether you’re visiting for a quick getaway with friends or a minimoon with your significant other, this unique accommodation experience is perfect for every kind of traveler and occasion.
However, if you’re looking for a luxury resort - you may need to look elsewhere. Kwentong Dagat’s charms lie in its unique-concept accommodations, peaceful surroundings and the simple pleasures of provincial life. But despite its laid back atmosphere, comfort is still a top priority - rooms are air conditioned and the cozy nipa-style cabins will surely feel like a home away from home.
Experience extraordinary beach days in comfort
At Kwentong Dagat, you get to choose between three accommodation styles: Standard Nipa Cabin, Abaca Rooms, or a Deluxe Nipa Cabin stay. Should you want to go camping, they also offer tent rentals so you can camp out by the beach!
Guests will get a good value for money at any one of the resorts’ cozy, air-conditioned accommodations. Their Standard Nipa Cabin fits two (2) double beds, and one (1) loft bed, comfortably accommodating up to 6 people. This is perfect for barkadas who are looking to explore the vicinity or spend most of their time at the beach!
The Deluxe Nipa Cabin on the other hand comfortably fits 6 people as well, the only difference being an en-suite bathroom inclusion. This charming nipa hut-style cabin is fitted with one (1) queen sized bed, a pull out double, and a queen size bed up at the loft.
If you’re looking for a more intimate stay, the Abaca Room might be more up your alley. The room includes one (1) queen-sized bed and a double-size pull-out bed that can accommodate up to four (4) individuals comfortably. It also has its own bathroom and a porch that serves as the perfect venue for those kwentuhan sessions. The resort, of course, provides guests with basic toiletries, the use of its kitchen and equipment, and is pet-friendly too!
Their amenities include communal bathrooms for quick rinses or showers, an outdoor kitchen for guests who want to prepare their own meals, and The Gazebo for intimate parties or celebrations by the beach.
Rates vary depending on weekday or weekend bookings, and charges for additional guests—like your furry little friends—apply per overnight stay. Guests are also offered reasonable glamping rates for an adventure-filled outdoor seaside experience complete with bonfires and a sky full of stars!
More than just another pretty accommodation
While we could talk endlessly about Kwentong Dagat’s lovely unique design and ideal location, this Zambales resort is so much more than just an Instagrammable accommodation. Determined to provide guests with a memorable experience, Kwentong Dagat offers many activities within the vicinity and is also the perfect jump off point for island activities, too!
If you’re up for some recreational activities, there is actually plenty to choose from! Kwentong Dagat offers sunrise and sunset yoga sessions, surfing and skimboard lessons and introductory jiu jitsu, boxing and muay thai classes. Alternatively, you can also book a vegan cooking class with their resident cook or indulge in a Macrame class should you be interested.
Just in case you’re curious what other gems are hidden across Zambales, you can avail of island hopping tours, a guided day trip to Anghalo Falls, or take part in an adventurous ATV ride!
Around sundown, you can enjoy a bonfire by the beach or gather with friends for an outdoor movie night too - all available upon request at Kwentong Dagat. Whatever you end up choosing, we’re sure you’ll leave with stories to tell.
Indulge in Kwentong Dagat’s vegan delights
Apart from their eye-catching accommodation options, Kwentong Dagat prides itself on being 100% plant based when it comes to their menu offerings. Whether you’re vegan or not, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by their scrumptious food options. To pique your interest, here are some of the one-of-a-kind dishes from the resort’s kitchen that are worth checking out:
Bicol Express
Those who crave some spice can savor Kwentong Dagat’s version of Bicol Express. It’s meat-free yet still packs a good chili punch. Each spoonful is generously flavored with soy-based “meat” that’s simmered in rich coconut milk that’ll tickle your taste buds.
Fish in Tausi
Another tasty dish courtesy of this vegan-friendly resort is their fish in tausi sauce! Bursting with such distinct flavours, you won’t even realize what you’re eating isn’t actually fish.
Tortang Talong
Kwentong Dagat’s take on the all-time Pinoy favorite is a bit sharper in taste as it’s made with chickpea flour mixed with water instead of egg. Still, this remains as one of Kwentong Dagat’s bestsellers and a must try for first-time visitors.
Vegan Caldereta
Kwentong Dagat’s Vegan Caldereta is meat-free but still has all the yummy flavors to tempt anyone’s palate. Made with a generous serving of meat magic (a textured protein made out of soy, wheat, and corn), it’s cooked with red onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, bay leaves, carrots, and potatoes in atsuete oil, patis, and tomato sauce to bring out all the right notes and textures of the dish!
