Breakfast will never be the same
If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you would’ve probably seen these Pancake Cereals all over your For You page. Not only is it really simple and easy to make, but it’s packed with sugar to get you going for the day. But - what even is pancake cereal?
What is a pancake cereal?
We feel bad for people who don’t like pancakes, because wow this is one breakfast meal we would 100% wake up early for. This mini pancake stack is so incredibly easy to make, we wonder why we never thought of it!
Although the concept was made famous through Tiktok, a similar breakfast dish is actually a staple in Dutch homes - called poffertjes - but instead are made from buckwheat flour and yeast, topped with butter and sugar.
Either way, your quarantine breakfast routine is about to level up. Check out the recipe below to make your own pancake cereal from scratch.
How To Make Pancake Cereal
Of course, if you already have pancake mix in your pantry, go on ahead and whip up that batter! But if you don’t have one on hand, or don’t regularly cook pancakes, here’s a recipe to make from scratch.
Ingredients:
- 1 to 1.5 cups flour (adjust batter consistency to your liking)
- 1/2 cup yoghurt
- 3 to 5 tbsp milk (adjust batter consistency to your liking)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
Instructions:
- Mix wet ingredients in one bowl
- Mix dry ingredients in another bowl
- Combine wet and dry ingredients
- Put mixture into piping bag (use a ziplock if you don’t have one, snip off the corner)
- Set your pan on low heat and add some butter
- Squeeze batter onto pan in small circles
- Cook each side for about 1 minute
- Once they’re done, you can put them in a bowl, and add any topping you like. (i.e butter, syrup, or even drown the pancake in milk)
A couple tips to make your pancake cereal:
- Use a plastic squeeze bottle (normally used for ketchup or mustard) to easily pipe the pancake batter onto your pan to your desired size.
- Add more flour if the batter is too thin
- Add more milk if the batter is too thick
