teamLab adds new Resonating Life in the Acorn Forest exhibit an hour away from Tokyo in 2020
New things to do have been springing up in Tokyo in 2020 even though tourists have largely been kept away. From the new Tokyo Art Aquarium that will be home to 30,000 goldfishes to the Uniqlo Tokyo Global Flagship Store that opened its doors on 19 June, our dream list of new places to visit in Tokyo keeps growing longer.
teamLab: Resonating Life in the Acorn Forest
teamLab has just announced their new permanent outdoor exhibition that will be set within the Musashino Woods of Higashi-Tokorozawa Park, Tokorozawa. In this exhibit opening on 1 August 2020, teamLab will use the latest digital technology to transform the acorn forests of Musashino Woods into an interactive art space.
teamLab: Resonating Life in the Acorn Forest is made up of two works - Autonomous Resonating Life - Liquified Light Color, Sunrise and Sunset, and Resonating Trees.
Autonomous Resonating Life - Liquified Light Color, Sunrise and Sunset
In this exhibit, large acorn-shaped ovoids are placed all around the woods. In the day, these ovoids act like mirrors and will reflect the surroundings. Visitors are welcomed to push these ovoids around, and as they wobble, they will produce different sounds that will trigger those around to resonate with the same tone.
Once the sun sets, these ovoids will also light up in different colors depending on the sounds they produce. The ovoids around will respond to one another, producing the same sound and color that continue to resonate out. The surrounding Resonating Trees will also respond and change continuously.
Resonating Trees
In the night, the trees of Musashino Woods will be lighted and blink slowly. Besides changing their colors in response to the sounds produced by the acorn-shaped ovoids, the colors will also change if it senses the presence of people.
