Fast forward to 2021, please!
The coronavirus pandemic has put a halt on many industries and projects in 2020, but the construction of the fifth and largest Universal Studios theme park is still going on at full speed, with 15,000 construction workers working on-site. Despite a brief halt to construction work when the pandemic outbreak was at large in China, the building schedule has gotten back on track and has been progressing smoothly in the past few weeks.
According to a press release in February this year, nearly half of the park's construction has already been completed, with the entire main structure already finished. It is set to open its doors on time as scheduled - in Spring 2021. The Universal Beijing Resort President and General Manager, Tom Mehrmann mentioned that "our rides, shows, attractions, and other facilities are now under installation and testing."
What We Know About The Largest Universal Studios Thus Far
Universal Beijing Resort will be the fifth and largest Universal Studios in the world, and will be 5 times bigger than Universal Studios Singapore. The resort will be home to seven themed lands, the Universal Beijing CityWalk shopping and entertainment district, as well as hotels ready to welcome visitors from all over the world.
Universal Beijing Resort also aims to bring a high-tech experience to their visitors and are working on the creation of an intelligent park digital system in collaboration with Alibaba, inclusive of a "Face ID recognition" system whereby visitors can use it to buy tickets, enter the park, rent lockers, make a restaurant reservation, shop, and more!
