Itching to ring in the new year out of Singapore? Why not make a quick trip to Taipei? Just think - lots of adventures by day (day trips to Taroko Gorge or Yangmingshan? Yes please!) and tons of tasty night market street food hunts at night. What could be better?
P/S: We heard that a good place to catch the Taipei 101 New Year Celebration Fireworks is from Elephant Mountain!
February: Chinese New Year
Public Holiday(s): 10-12 February (Sat-Mon)
Take leave on: 9 February or 13 February
Best place to escape nosy relatives this CNY? Definitely by using the good ol' 'I'm going overseas' excuse and jet set away for some quiet me-time (or couple time with bae!).
Since it's also nearing Valentine's Day - why not splurge a little and head on a romantic trip to the Maldives? February just so happens to be the best time to visit, since it's the driest month. You'll get to enjoy those gorgeous sparkling sea views that stretch over the horizon, with perfect temperatures for water activities like diving and snorkelling!
March: Good Friday
Public Holiday(s): 29 March
Take leave on: 1 April
April: Hari Raya Puasa
Public Holiday(s):10 April
Take leave on: 11-12 April
Make your Good Friday long weekend even better by taking leave on Monday (and perhaps a few more days) and escaping to Japan or Korea for a spring escapade!
From late March onwards to April is springtime in Japan/Korea, which means you’ll get to witness gorgeous flower-draped scenery, with postcard-perfect sights and photo ops at every corner.
The flowering dates specifically vary each year though - make sure to do your research first before booking your trips!
Keep your eyes peeled and we'll update these articles as soon as we get more info:
May: Labour Day & Vesak Day
Public Holiday(s):
- Labour Day: 1 May
- Vesak Day: 22 May
Take leave on:
- for Labour Day: 2-3 May
- for Vesak Day: 23-24 May
For the long Labour Day and Vesak Day break, why not plan for a nice long holiday in the USA? We suggest exploring the best of the West Coast via an epic road trip like no other. There are so many things to see and do from visiting the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland California, to a camping adventure in Yosemite National Park.
Can’t start a road trip without a car, so snag your trusty vehicle of choice by booking your car rental on Klook, where you can take your pick from various top-rate suppliers including Hertz, Avis and Enterprise.
June: Hari Raya Haji
Public Holiday(s): 14 June
Take leave on: 17 June
It's the school holidays this month, so if you're looking to spend the Hari Raya Haji break out of Singapore, we think that Hong Kong is a great choice! It's only a 4-hour flight (not too long so the kids won't get too fussed, hopefully!) and there are tons of kid-friendly things to do here.
Check out the new World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland, chow on Michelin-star eats, hang out at the different museums or visit the rainbow-hued Choi Hung Estate for a cute family photoshoot!
August: National Day
Public Holiday(s): 9 August
Take leave on: 12 August
Celebrate Singapore’s independence during the National Day long weekend with a host of fun outings and activities around our island home. We suggest doing a staycation at The Fullerton Hotel, a grand heritage hotel that offers sumptuous rooms and an exquisite high tea or just exploring and rediscovering what the area has to offer.
P/S: The Fullerton Hotel makes for an ideal base when it comes to watching the NDP or the rehearsals, and if you book a room at a high floor or head out early to find a good spot, you can easily watch the marchpast, flypast and mobile column—not forgetting a front row seat to the riveting fireworks show at the end!
October: Deepavali
Public Holiday(s): 31 October
Take leave on: 1 November
From its mammoth mega malls to plenty of amazing food - Bangkok is perfect for a quick getaway that's not too expensive and only a 2.5-hour flight away! This Deepavali long weekend, pop over for a quick 4D3N break! Make sure to schedule plenty of massages while you're at it too, you definitely can't miss those when you're in Thailand!
December: Christmas
Public Holiday(s): 25 December
Take leave on: 26-27 December (feel free to add more days to make your EOY holiday break extra shiok!)
Ah, the end of the year is finally here! You deserve a nice long holiday after all your hard work, so why not reward yourself and extend your Christmas PH break into the new year (add on as many days as you like from 26 Dec onwards) with a trip to Winter Wonderland in Switzerland?
Nothing spells Christmassy vibes than frolicking in the snow, meandering your way through the Christmas markets and exploring snow-capped landscapes. Magical, right?
#KlookTip: One great essential to have on your Swiss adventures is the Swiss Travel Pass, which gets you unlimited rides on trains, panorama trains (including Bernina Express and the Glacier Express!), boats, and buses for up to 15 consecutive or flexible days in Switzerland as well as up to 50% off mountain excursions to Swiss peaks such as Jungfrau and Titlis.
It also includes exclusive deals or free entry for more than 500 museums such as the Matterhorn Museum, Swiss National Museum and Glacier Garden. Just flash your pass and troop right in without having to purchase tickets at the counter.
Now that you know which dates to look out for, all you have to do is book your AL early and start counting down to enjoying your long weekend adventures!
