Japan Autumn Forecast 2023
Each year, Japan releases an official forecast which tells you the best time to visit each destination to witness “koyo,” which is the country’s breathtaking phenomenon of leaves changing to vibrant shades or red, orange, and yellow. The best time to witness autumn colors varies per area, so make sure to book your trip during each destination’s peak foliage season.

Try planning your visit during October through early December for the best fall foliage sighting. The mild and comfortable temperatures that autumn brings in also make it a great time for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

Klook Tip: When packing for your autumn trip in Japan, light jackets are enough in September. For October and November, bring jackets or even a coat already as the temperatures will begin to rise. Note that the northern regions in Japan like Hokkaido and Tohoku get colder earlier than the rest.

Hokkaido
Hokkaido, Japan’s northern gem, is known for stunning foliage, especially with its iconic Japanese maples which create a stunning backdrop to your Instagram-worthy shots.
