Now’s the time to catch some theatre performances, arthouse films, and even famous musicals from around the world!

    Pangdemonium - Falling & Late Company

    Pangdemonium is a local theatre company by Adrian Pang and Tracie Pang. In this “Circuit Breaker” season, they are streaming two of their past productions - Falling and Late Company - free for a limited time online.

    Synopsis: Tami and Bill are ordinary parents doing their best to bring up their two teenage kids – Lisa, 16, full of attitude and angst; and Josh, who demands extraordinary attention because he’s an 18-year-old boy with severe autism. Falling examines the meaning of unconditional love, and dares to ask: “How do you love someone who is difficult to love?”

    WILD RICE - Supervision & Monkey Goes West

    WILD RICE is one of Singapore’s leading professional theatre companies founded by Ivan Heng in 2000. As we stay home, they have launched a WILD@Home programme and are making their popular titles available on their YouTube for a week each. For those interested in exploring the plays at home, free educational packs will also be available online. These will include in-depth articles, interviews, and suggested activities for children and students.

    Synopsis: Written by local playwright Thomas Lim, Supervision is inspired by his aunt who installed cameras in her house to keep an eye on her foreign domestic helpers. Supervision explores several issues our society faces with a rapidly ageing population, such as the stresses faced by foreign domestic workers in their jobs as primary care-givers and the "ethics of surveillance".

    Monkey Goes West

    Synopsis: Winner of ‘Production of the Year’ at the 2015 Straits Times Life Theatre Awards, Monkey Goes West is an affectionate and cheeky retelling of the beloved Chinese fantasy classic. Join us for this epic thrill ride that will take you from Haw Par Villa to Jurong West – by way of a colourful world filled with mythical monsters and naughty fairies!

    Nine Years Theatre - FAUST/US

    Nine Years Theatre is a Mandarin theatre company that focuses on the re-imagination of classic work and that’s what they did with Shakespeare's work King Lear. They are screening one archival recording of their plays every week on their YouTube.

    Synopsis: A brilliant but frustrated academic, Faust has achieved all that she can with her knowledge. Dissatisfied with what she has, she yearns for more in her life. One day she is visited by an unexpected visitor, Mephistopheles, who is full of surprises. Mephistopheles makes a deal with her; spend the rest of her life with him, as he shows her a lifetime of everything she desires, in exchange for her soul in the beyond.

    The Necessary Stage - Rosnah

    The Necessary Stage is a non-profit theatre company with charity status and its mission is to create challenging, indigenous, and innovative theatre that touches the heart and mind.

    The Projector 

    The Projector is Singapore’s favourite indie cinema at Golden Mile. They may have to shut its doors temporarily due to social distancing measures, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your fix of indie films while helping to raise funds to support those in need and keep The Projector running.

    Synopsis: This heartfelt, immersive documentary interweaves the natural worlds and cityscapes of Bangladesh and Singapore. Poetically observing the broken bodies, stoic faces, surveilled dormitories, and sprawling construction sites plus shipyards that make up the migrant-labour flow from one of the world’s poorest countries to one of the richest. I Dream of Singapore is Lei Yuan Bin's heartfelt triptych tribute to silent nation-builders and their shrouded life in this poignant documentary.

    Objectifs Film Library

    Objectifs, a non-profit arts organisation that champions film and photography and their value to society, is now offering an entire library of Southeast Asian short films for rent online starting from only US$1.50. You can watch short films that are not usually available outside the festival and institution circuit, while supporting these filmmakers and the work they do, as most of the film rental fees will go to them.

    London’s National Theatre - Frankenstein

    London’s National Theatre has been keeping audiences at home the world over on the edge of their sofas during lockdown by streaming a free full-length play every Thursday for free.
    Synopsis: Watch Danny Boyle's monster hit Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature and Jonny Lee Miller as Victor Frankenstein. Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
