From the Macritchie Treetop Walk to Singapore’s Southern Ridges, here are some treks in Singapore that lets you escape the bustle of the city and get in touch with nature. Slap on your sunscreen and pack some insect repellent and get ready to explore the island on foot.

1. Pulau Ubin
Many of us might have fond memories of camping outdoors in Pulau Ubin during Outward Bound camp days, but did you know that there is also a small hill, Bukit Puaka for you to hike up for some views?
The hike up Puaka Hill is only 20 minutes long but the path is rocky and can be pretty steep so it is definitely still a workout!
Admission is free (not including the trip to Pulau Ubin)

2. Southern Ridges

The Southern Ridges are a series of green spaces that connect Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill, Hort Park, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve.
This 5 park field trip has installed for you constantly changing scenery from lush greenery to the iconic Henderson Waves and even landscape views of Mount Faber.

3. MacRitchie Treetop Walk

The MacRitchie Treetop Walk is probably one of the most popular and most famous hikes in Singapore. With various different routes for different levels of fitness, the easiest one is only 2.5km one way and a round trip will take you slightly under 3 hours.
Along the way, you’ll get to spot monkeys, rare bird species and upon arrival at the Treetop Walk, you’ll be greeted with a bird’s eye view of the lush green canopy below.
Distance: 2.5km one way
Route: Start at Venus Drive Carpark and follow the signs along the way. Do note that the route is one way only.

4. Fort Canning Park

Located right in the middle of the city, Fort Canning Park is an iconic hilltop landmark that witnessed many of Singapore’s milestones. There are 8 different trails you can take around the park but history buffs will definitely love the Colonial Historial Trail that takes you back in time to the days when the summit of this once Forbidden Hill was a key to communications.

5. Kranji Marshes

The Kranji Marshes is one of the best places for avid bird watchers and nature lovers. The 10 metre Raptor Tower is probably the highlight of the hike for many. Head up and enjoy the insane views of the waters and try to spot the different bird species.

6. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

A hot favourite amongst the locals, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the tallest natural hill in Singapore, standing at 163 metres tall. The trail here inclines and is definitely a good thigh workout for all.
The summit trail is a 1.4km hike that takes you approximately 40 minutes one way. Keep your eyes peeled for adorable owls and monkeys along the way!

7. Western Adventure Loop
The Western Adventure Loop features quarry ponds, high cliffs and exotic bird species! Covering 5 different parks - Bukit Batok Nature Park, Jurong Lake Park, Dairy Farm Nature Park, Choa Chu Kang Park, there are many different routes you can take. We suggest splitting these parks into separate visits to fully enjoy each one.

8. Coney Island

Home to over 80 species of birds, there are even huge predators like eagles over at Coney Island. The path to nice photos here is not an easy feat! The pathways are mostly gravel and dirt terrain but you just might discover secret beaches, an abandoned villa and a newly built boardwalk.
Do note to bring plenty of water as there are no amenities for you to stop for water along the way.

9. Upper Seletar Reservoir
The Upper Seletar Reservoir features an Instagrammable lone tree, perfect for those looking to take pre-wed shots of their walks in the park. There are also long-tailed macaques strolling around the area so we advise you to keep all your loose belongings safely!
The 15 hectares of lush greenery is definitely worth the trouble getting there!

10. Sungei Buloh Wetland
Singapore’s very first wetland reserve- Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a place where you’ll even spot fierce crocodiles along the riverbanks and mangroves. Head there during the migratory season and you’ll even fire flocks of shorebirds flying overhead!

11. Learning Forest
Singapore’s Botanic Gardens are one of the nation’s most treasured attractions. Located within them is the Learning Forest, a sprawling wonderland of wild fruit trees, boardwalk-ringed ponds and bamboo groves.
This is a magical place for an easy hike and is easy to get to. Take a bus from downtown Singapore to Holland Road, then walk just a few minutes to the entrance.

12. Chestnut Nature Park
Close to Bukit Timah, you’ll find the wildlife-dotted Chestnut Nature Park – perfect if you’re looking to combine a hike with spotting some of Singapore's rarer birds. Stretch your legs across 800 square kilometres of forested space and you might sight the likes of orange-bellied flowerpeckers and brown-chested jungle flycatchers.
