    reasons we miss the cinema

There’s nothing like watching movies in the cinemas

While many of us sought solace in Netflix during the lockdown, there’s nothing like stepping out of the house and into the cinemas. The magic of storytelling that brings out certain emotions in us, the cinema has become a safe haven for us to release those emotions by indulging in the scenes in front of us. The entire experience of stepping into the ticket office, from being welcomed by the smell of caramel popcorn to the giant screens, here are some things we missed about the cinemas.

    1. The big screen

“You’ll have to watch it on the big screen”, some films are just best seen in cinemas. The giant screen that spans across what seems to be the entire width of the room, the screen engulfs you and takes you into their world. Unless you’re lucky enough to own a home theatre, this is definitely something you can’t compare to streaming on your laptop screens.

    2. The sound system

One of the most important parts of any movie is the sound. While you might have speakers at home to accompany your TV or laptops, nothing beats the quality of the surround sound system in the cinemas. You’ll truly feel as if you’ve stepped into the world of the movie with the all immersive experience.
P.S. We think the best seats in the house are in the center because that's where the sound converges.

    3. Movie snacks

The smell of caramel popcorn ALWAYS tempts us. Whether you’re team sweet or salty, piping hot popcorn and ice cold soft drinks are some things we miss having. Not forgetting molten gold nacho cheese and crunchy corn chips, there’s just something about having it freshly made in cinemas that can’t compare to those you have at home.

    4. The audience

There’s just something about watching a movie together in the cinemas. The community spirit of an equally excited audience roaring with laughter or maybe even sniffling and hushed sobs during a tearjerker moment. The collective laughter, sighs and gasps are all contagious and you just can’t experience the same energy if you’re catching a movie at home.

    5.Escape from reality

Upon stepping into the darkness of the cinemas, you can leave behind your worries and be fully immersed in whatever you’re about to watch. Just heading out of the house and into the cool, comfortable theatres is an experience we miss.
Plus, the movies are the one place you can put your phone away for hours, distracted by the spectacle on the screen, you can leave your text messages, slack alerts, phone calls and even work emails for just a few hours.
Luckily for us in Singapore, cinemas have reopened on 13th July with the necessary safe-distancing measures in place. This means that we can head out to the cinemas with a peace of mind!
