Best Places to See Cherry Blossoms in Taiwan

Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Northern Taiwan

    1. New Taipei - Wuji Tianyuan Temple

    Cherry blossoms at a pagoda
Wuji Tianyuan Temple is one of the most popular destinations for cherry blossom viewing in the country – and for good reason!
Various kinds of cherry blossom trees surround the area, framing the 200-meter-tall pagoda in delicate shades of pink and white. In full bloom, they’re so fluffy they look almost cloud-like.
We recommend visiting between late February to April to catch the blossoms. Plus, it’s only about ~40 minutes away via car from Taipei, making this the perfect escape away from the city.
If you are travelling in February, be sure not to miss the cherry blossom festival night illuminations from 4.30pm - 8.30pm every day from 5-18 February 2024!
Cherry blossoms in front of a Chinese pagoda
The pagoda itself is located on top of a small hill, and the cherry blossoms are behind it, so no worries if you don’t see the cherry trees when you first arrive at the temple!
Just follow the pathway leading uphill to get there, and you’ll see the pagoda in no time. The walk is a little steep but for the cherry blossoms and the bird’s-eye view of New Taipei at the end? We think it’s totally worth it.

    2. New Taipei - Wulai

Cherry blossoms and cablecar amidst a waterfall
If you’re looking for more day trip ideas from Taipei, this one’s for you! Wulai is a hidden gem about two hours from the capital, known for its hot springs, waterfalls, and river landscapes. Taiwanese cherry blossoms bloom a lot here, these are more crimson compared to other varieties of cherry blossom species and they peak from February to March.
For the ultimate cherry blossom viewing experience, we recommend beginning with Wulai Waterfall. While this is walkable from Wulai Terminal Station, you can also try the Wulai Scenic Train for a more picturesque journey to the falls.
Don’t forget to check out Wulai Old Street for yummy traditional Taiwanese street cuisine as well! It’s just a 20-minute walk from Wulai Waterfall. Don't miss out on a hot spring experience while you're in Wulai, too!

    3. Taipei - Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山)

    taiwan cherry blossom forecast yangmingshan

Spanning around 28,400 hectares, it's safe to say that there are many places to enjoy cherry blossoms within Yangmingshan National Park! These include areas near the bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek, Shuilian Cave at the second parking lot, the park's visitor centre, lake and mountain green space (湖山綠地), cherry blossom stream (櫻花溪流) and more!
Besides cherry blossoms, Yangmingshan is also known for various other seasonal blooms like Rhododendrons in early spring and Calla Lilly in April, making the national park a real springtime hot spot.

If you're looking for the most romantic cherry blossom trail in Yangmingshan, 42 Pingjing Street (平菁街 42 巷) is the place to be! It's also the earliest cherry blossom viewing spot in Taipei.
Besides the cherry blossoms in Yangmingshan, we also really recommend giving Beitou a visit! Explore popular locations like Beitou Hot Spring Museum, Geothermal Valley, Qingtiangang Grassland and more!

    4. Taipei - LOHAS Park (內湖樂活公園)

With a 3km long cherry blossom trail along the Neigou River in Neihu, there's definitely no shortage of cherry blossoms to admire at LOHAS Park. You'll be able to see various species of cherry blossoms that include Yae sakura (八重櫻), Showa sakura (昭和櫻), Yoshino sakura (吉野櫻) and Formosa sakura (福爾摩沙櫻)!

The blooms here usually happen around the Spring Festival and if you get the timing of your trip just right, you'll be able to see the flowers gradually change from pink and white to pink and deep red.
#KlookTip: If you're looking for something that's extra romantic, visit the park at night and take a stroll along the perfectly lit cherry blossom trail!

    5. Taoyuan - Lala Mountain Loving Farm (拉拉山恩愛農場)

taiwan cherry blossom forecast Lala Mountain Loving Farm

You can even bring your own food for a picnic under the trees and take a close-up selfie with the cherry blossoms with the small ladders that are provided by the farm!

    10. Nantou - Sun Moon Lake (日月潭)

taiwan cherry blossom forecast sun moon lake
The largest naturally occurring body of water in Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake is named so because of its appearance. It’s split in the middle by tiny Lalu Island, which makes the left side of the lake look like a crescent moon, while the right side looks like a whole sun.
From early February to early March, you can catch this unique sight amidst blooming cherry blossoms!
