From Hollywood, California to Osaka, Japan to Sentosa, Singapore, Universal Studios Theme Parks are known around the world for bringing extraordinary experiences inspired by classic pieces of pop culture. Bringing characters, sets, and plots to life, Universal Studios Parks are a must on a vacation to any of their locations. While the parks have their staple rides and attractions, their main headquarters, Universal Orlando Resort, is located in sunny Orlando, Florida, and is currently made up of three different theme and water parks. But with so many parks to choose from, visitors often wonder what rides are at Universal Studios Orlando?
Not to worry, we’ve come up with a list of the nine best rides in Universal Studios Orlando, categorized by their two main parks (Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Island of Adventure) :
Universal Studios Florida
1. Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride
A well-loved classic ride among the Universal Theme Parks, this indoor roller coaster is based on The Mummy film franchise. This immersive high-speed ride goes up to 45 mph, features a 39-foot plunge, and includes a backwards journey through the tunnels as you attempt to escape an evil curse.
2. E.T. Adventure
Immerse yourself in the classic 1982 film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, with an out-of-this-world adventure to save E.T. and his friends. Recreate the iconic flying bicycle chase over a starry night, then visit E.T.’s joyful home planet for a celebration—colorful sets and singing characters, included.
3. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
Get a front-row seat to Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Griphook’s mission to retrieve the Horcrux hidden in the vaults at Gringotts Bank. This enthralling chase combines detailed sets replicated from the movie, and physical and 3D effects, as you try to survive Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange’s evil powers.
4. Hogwarts Express: King’s Cross Station
All aboard the Hogwarts Express at King’s Cross Station! Next stop: Hogsmeade. Board the train at Platform 9¾ and it’s smooth sailing from there, or is it? Keep your eyes on the window for some swooping surprises—the good and the demented kind 😉
*Note: The Hogwarts Express will take you from Universal Studios Florida to Universal’s Island of Adventure and vice versa. Guests will need a Park-to-Park admission ticket to board at King’s Cross Station or Hogsmeade Station.
Universal’s Island of Adventure
5. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Take a trip into the Forbidden Forest for a special Care of Magical Creatures class with Hagrid as your guide. This “story coaster” isn’t just for any muggle as it takes you up close and personal with the extraordinary creatures of the wizarding world. It currently stands as the longest coaster in Florida, and shouldn’t be underestimated. Feel like you’re ready to take this ride on? Just take note that this adventure has a top speed of 50 mph, seven launches, a 65-foot tall vertical spike, and a backwards drop!
6. Jurassic World VelociCoaster
When it comes to thrills, Jurassic Park is well-known for having the best rides at Universal Studios Orlando—or any Universal Studios location, for that matter. The latest ride to open at Universal Orlando only adds more to this claim. The Jurassic World VelociCoaster features a 140-foot drop as you dash through the sky alongside Velociraptors that will surely have you roaring in excitement.
7. Doctor Doom’s Fearfall
Two 185-foot towers make up the latest evil invention of Doctor Doom. What’s his plan? To harness riders’ fear as an ingredient for his next weapon against the Fantastic Four. His Fearfall is the perfect way to do it. Prepare to be launched several feet into the air then dropped back down at dizzying speeds all before you know it.
8. The Incredible Hulk Coaster
This is a Hulk-smashing ride with a top speed of 67 mph—definitely not for the faint-hearted. You’ll be up, down, upside down, and exposed to gamma radiation before being transformed into your own versions of the Hulk, just like Bruce Banner.
9. Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges
You’ve been recruited for a rescue mission to help Popeye save the sweet Olive Oyl from his nemesis, Bluto. The thrilling part is you’ll never know what to expect down the raging rapids—perhaps an 18-foot octopus? One thing’s for sure: there’ll be a lot of splashing involved.
