The Korean War Veterans Memorial stands as a solemn tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served in the Korean War, often called the "Forgotten War." You can find this memorial near the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. An impressive part of the memorial is the 19 statues of soldiers, showing different races and branches of the military like the Marines and Air Force. As you walk through the memorial, make sure to stop at the Wall of Remembrance. Here, you'll find the powerful words "Freedom is Not Free" carved into stone, reminding us of the price the armed forces paid. Another important part of the memorial is the Mural Wall, which shows the faces of real people who served during the war. Visiting the memorial is a moving experience that helps us remember and appreciate these heroes. So, next time you’re in Washington, D.C., don’t forget to visit and pay your respects to the people who played a vital role in history.

This was a very intensive trip. The tour leaves New York at 6:30 AM and returns from Washington, D.C. around 3:30 PM. Each trip takes 4 hours. There will be a stop at the Biden Welcome Center for a restroom break and a snack (or quick breakfast). We spent about 15-30 minutes at each attraction, mainly taking pictures and walking around the memorial and buildings. The last stop was to visit the Aircraft and Space Museum and had a quick meal at their cafe (only sandwiches and pastries available) The guide was very pleasant and informative. Overall a good trip, visiting all the main attractions in a hassle-free day trip. Love it!

Our tour guide for the day was called Steve, and he could speak English and Spanish. The tour guide is very attentive and will remind you of the meeting time and place, as well as some precautions the day before. The drive from New York to Washington takes about 4 hours. We stopped at a rest stop on both the outbound and return journeys to buy food and use the restroom. The tour guide briefly introduced the history of each attraction, and I felt that the time we spent on taking photos was sufficient. I highly recommend friends who are traveling to New York to purchase this package and take a one-day trip to Washington, which is well worth it!

Truly enjoyed this tour with Allan! He is knowledgeable and threw in really interesting facts and fun bits about NYC, Washington D.C. and the cities we drove past during the tour—that made it all the more worth it. Itinerary was well planned and I thoroughly appreciate the punctuality too. It was a medium-sized group (only 11 of us), so it was very easy to crowd-control! Would highly suggest trying this out if you wanna explore DC’s best attractions!!!

Mural Wall

The Mural Wall, an eye-catching part of the Korean War Veterans Memorial, was designed by artist Louis Nelson. This wall is made of dark granite, which reflects the surrounding trees. It creates an eerie yet beautiful scene where it looks like 19 soldier statues are marching into the woods. The wall also has photos etched into it, showing faces and scenes from the Korean War.

Pool of Remembrance

In the center of the Korean War Memorial is the Pool of Remembrance, a peaceful place perfect for quiet reflection. The phrase "Freedom is Not Free" is carved here, reminding us of the true cost of war. It's a wonderful spot to sit and honor the soldiers who fought for freedom during the Korean War.

19 Statues

One of the most striking parts of the Korean War Veterans Memorial is the 19 statues, appearing larger than life. Made by sculptor Frank Gaylord, these statues are crafted from stainless steel. They show soldiers from different branches like the United States Army, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard personnel. The statues seem to march in the cold wind, their ponchos blowing. This captures the tough conditions they faced. Walking among these statues feels like stepping back into history.

United Nations Curb

The United Nations Wall is a special feature where the names of the 22 countries that fought together in the Korean War are etched. This curb honors the teamwork and cooperation of many nations during the conflict. It highlights how people around the world joined forces to protect peace and freedom in Korea.

Dedication Stone

The Dedication Stone is a key part of the Korean War Veterans Memorial. It was officially revealed by President Bill Clinton and serves as a powerful reminder of the war's worldwide effects. It carries a heartfelt message: "Our Nation Honors Her Sons and Daughters Who Answered the Call to Defend a Country They Never Knew and a People They Never Met." This stone reminds us to thank those who served through difficult times.

Honor Roll

The Korean War Honor Roll in the Korean War Memorial pays tribute to the over 36,000 American soldiers who lost their lives in the war. It ensures these brave individuals are remembered for their courage and dedication. It's a touching reminder of the lives given to safeguard freedom and peace.
