It seems like a place where you can see the Chicago River and buildings beautifully. It takes a long time to tilt and you have to pay separately. The cloud bar is an open space, so there is nothing special, but it is good to have a drink at the cafe. You can get a free drink if you show the voucher, but they ask for your passport for alcohol.

If you are not physically fit, I recommend you look at famous works in the beginning. There are so many famous paintings such as Monet, Gogh, and Picasso. There are many chairs in the middle, so open the door and go in and take a rest. If you go to the basement of the cafe, they sell delicious food, so take a rest while eating, and then close the door and come out. I personally like the Buncheong ware in the Korean pavilion the best.

Be sure to allocate at least three hours of time. The collection is rich and there are many famous masterpieces. It is very enjoyable to read! There is free storage next to the ticket office. In winter, be sure to store all your coats, coats, scarves, hats and gloves, so you can browse the museum easily and comfortably!

DuSable Bridge

This Beaux Arts masterpiece not only connects the bustling city across the Chicago River but also tells the story of its past through stunning bas-relief sculptures. As you stroll across this double-leaf, double-deck bascule bridge, take a moment to appreciate its unique lifting mechanism that gracefully accommodates both the city's traffic and the majestic tall ships that pass beneath. It's a journey through time and technology that you won't want to miss.

McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum

Discover the hidden wonders of the McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum, nestled within the southwest bridge house of the DuSable Bridge. This captivating museum invites you to delve into the fascinating world of bridge engineering and the rich history of the Chicago River. Explore the intricate gears and mechanisms that power this architectural gem, and if you time your visit right, witness the awe-inspiring sight of the bridge in motion during a seasonal lift. It's an experience that offers a unique perspective on the city's vibrant past and its dynamic present.

South End Reliefs

Embark on a journey through Chicago's storied past with the South End Reliefs, a testament to the city's resilience and spirit. These powerful sculptures, crafted by the talented Henry Hering and funded by the Benjamin F. Ferguson Monument Fund, adorn the southwest and southeast towers of the DuSable Bridge. 'The Defense' captures the intense 1812 confrontation between native tribes and settlers, while the southeast tower celebrates the indomitable spirit of rebuilding after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Each relief tells a tale of courage and renewal, inviting you to reflect on the city's enduring legacy.

Cultural and Historical Significance

The DuSable Bridge is a cultural gem in Chicago, embodying the city's rich history and transformation. As part of the 1909 Plan of Chicago, it was designed to turn Michigan Avenue into a grand boulevard, inspired by Parisian architecture. Walking across the bridge, you'll encounter sculptures and plaques that tell the story of Chicago's past, from the early days of Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable to the historical Fort Dearborn. It's a journey through time, celebrating key events and figures that shaped the city.

Engineering Feat

The DuSable Bridge is not just a pretty face; it's an engineering marvel. This trunnion bascule bridge boasts a movable design with counterweights, allowing it to gracefully open for river traffic. Its double-deck structure is a testament to innovative engineering, accommodating both vehicles and pedestrians. It's a must-see for anyone fascinated by architectural ingenuity.

Architectural Design

A masterpiece of the Bureau of Engineering, the DuSable Bridge is a quintessential example of a Chicago-style bascule bridge. Its construction was a key element of the 1909 Plan of Chicago, designed to connect the city's north and south parks with a grand boulevard. The bridge's design reflects the European cultural influences of the 1920s, making it a significant architectural landmark in the heart of Chicago.
